'People are afraid' - the reasons 'powerhouse' Arsenal are the side to defeat.

There's little doubt why Arsenal are now countless pundits' top picks to claim the Premier League this season.

Consider their outcomes against Newcastle and Crystal Palace versus those identical matches last season.

The Gunners have defeated all of them during this campaign, but surrendered 10 points across those games as they faded in the title race previously.

Impenetrable Rearguard

Arsenal's backline resilience is a key reason why they are appearing strong to ultimately achieve their title ambition.

They stand first for shutouts (6), shots let in (3), opposition efforts (72), dangerous chances allowed (19) and xGA (5.3).

The central defensive pairing of Gabriel and William Saliba is arguably the best in the league, with Arsenal recording a clean sheet in six of their first nine games.

Dead-Ball Excellence

Their threat from set-pieces is well known, but rival sides still struggle to stop the Gunners from these opportunities.

They have scored 11 times from set-pieces in the league, several additional than any other side, with 69% of their goals coming from these situations.

"Arsenal can perform multiple roles now. The whole team has a fear factor. People are just wary of them and it is great to see."

Championship Claims

What is especially impressive about Arsenal's commencement to the campaign is they have also faced Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United away from home and Manchester City at home - and are still ahead by four points at the top.

While they continue triumphing, their historic competitors aren't faring so well. This marks the first time at this stage of the season since 1992 that none of Manchester City and United, Liverpool or Chelsea are in the Premier League top four.

The expectations was on manager Mikel Arteta at the beginning, having spent around £250m on eight summer additions in search of that coveted first title since 2004.

But the investment has so far paid off in impressive fashion, with his side among the highest scorers in the league and having the tightest defense, despite several injuries.

  • Unbreached games in three consecutive Premier League games
  • 385 minutes without allowing a goal
  • Only a trio of goals in 12 games across all competitions

Former players and analysts have characterized Arteta's men as a "unstoppable force, looking hard to stop" with the whole club now performing with conviction and purpose.
